LOS ANGELES — A criminal investigation has been opened into the death of “Friends” star Matthew Perry.

It’s been six months since Perry was found unresponsive in the hot tub of his Los Angeles home. Law enforcement determined that ketamine contributed to Perry’s death but are now looking into how he received the drug.

According to the Associated Press, Los Angeles Police Department’s Captain Scot Williams said they are working with the Drug Enforcement Agency to figure out why Perry had that much ketamine in his system when he died.

Those close to Perry told police he was undergoing ketamine infusion therapy for his depression and anxiety. The medical examiner said his last treatment over a week prior does not explain the levels of the drug in his blood.

The AP reported that ketamine is usually dissolved by the body in a matter of hours. The AP also reported that the amount of ketamine in Perry’s blood was the amount used in general anesthesia for surgery purposes . According to the AP, while drowning and “other medical factors” were listed as causes of death, ketamine was listed in the autopsy as Perry’s primary cause of death.
