The fire occurred in the area of 1194 S. 2100 West just before 4 p.m. When emergency personnel arrived on scene, strong smoke was visible causing crews to go on the defensive.
In evacuating the home, one family member suffered some minor burns from the fire. The Red Cross of Utah of is assisting the family.
Unfortunately, three dogs, two cats and two chinchillas were inside the home at the time of the fire and are unaccounted for. Syracuse Deputy Fire Chief Joe Hamblin says it’s likely they perished in the fire.
Two firefighters were injured by the heat. One was treated and released on scene. The other was transported to an area hospital, but is expected to make a full recovery.
Hamblin says the house is a complete loss.
