Man faces drug distribution charges after being arrested with 8 grams of meth

SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City police arrested a man in the Gateway Mall on suspicion of drug distribution on Monday evening.
SLCPD identified the man as 59-year-old Kade Robert Ford. He was arrested at around 4:50 p.m. near 152 South Rio Grande Street. The address is within the Gateway Mall.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Ford was stopped and arrested on existing warrants. He was on pretrial release, facing felony charges.
Ford allegedly told officers he “had a bag of meth in his pocket,” per the affidavit. They found a plastic bag filled with a crystal-like substance. A field test confirmed it was methamphetamine.
Police said Ford had 8 grams of the drug, as well as drug paraphernalia.
Amount suggested drug distribution
According to the document, Ford said he only used 0.01 to 0.02 grams per day. But police said that Ford’s long criminal record, which dates back to the 1980s, led them to believe he was selling the methamphetamine they had found.
The affidavit said Ford could face four charges; three counts of use or possession of drug paraphernalia and one count of drug possession with intent to distribute.
