MURRAY, Utah — Murray Police responded to a shooting at Fashion Place Mall that took place shortly after 11 a.m. on Saturday after what police say was an altercation between young men in the mall’s parking lot escalated, resulting in gunfire.
Police say one person was shot and received non-life-threatening injuries from the incident. Police have identified one suspect as 18-year-old Imanuill Ahmed.
Some bullets struck nearby vehicles and the building during the incident prompting police to block off the parking lot so authorities can conduct a thorough investigation.
According to a probable cause statement, police arrested six individuals in connection to the shooting. One of the six was shot in the lower ankle
and transported to the hospital.
Based on their investigation and evidence, police say the six individuals followed one solo man out to the parking lot. Following this, a confrontation occurred and the solo man shot at the group of six. Ahmed, one of the six, had a gun and fired it in retaliation.
According to the probable cause statement, Ahmed told detectives he had “emptied his clip” and then hid his weapon under a nearby trash compactor.
Ahmed faces investigation of felony discharge of a firearm, obstruction of justice, felony riot-involving bodily injury/property damage/arson and dangerous weapon and criminal mischief charges.
This comes five years to the date since a weekend shooting at Fashion Place Mall in 2019.
