Man arrested in connection to several hit-and-runs Friday

SALT LAKE CITY — A 20-year-old man was arrested Friday after driving recklessly and committing two hit-and-runs.
According to a press release, At approximately 9:26 a.m., the Salt Lake City Police Department received multiple reports of a hit-and-run in the area of 2300 East Garfield Ave. Through these reports, police learned the suspect was driving a silver Honda Civic. Police say the suspect had hit a parked pickup truck and then fled the scene.
Following this, police received more reports that the suspect was driving in the wrong direction and running red lights. They also received a report that he had hit a second parked car.
At approximately 9:34 a.m., according to the press release, police learned the suspect had crashed through a fence at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center located near 500 South and East Valdez Drive.
Both the SLCPD and officers with the United States Department of Veterans Affairs Police responded to the scene. In the parking lot off Bennion Boulevard, they found the driver and a heavily damaged car.
No injuries were reported from the crash or either of the hit-and-runs.
After locating him in the parking lot, police immediately noticed signs of impairment. Police also found several open beer bottles in the car and a case of beer in the car.
The suspect has been taken into custody and will be processed for driving under the influence, according to the press release.
