CLEARFIELD, Utah –Police identified the man who died after a road rage shooting in Clearfield.

Clearfield City Police identified the deceased as James Edward Saccato, age 63, from West Point, Utah.

Listen to the KSL in-depth, where Jeff Caplan interviewed Col. Michael Rapich with the UHP about road rage driving.

The incident began Monday night, June 3, near Industrial Parkway and SR-193 in Clearfield City.  According to police, someone called Layton dispatch to report a hit-and-run involving two vehicles.

In a statement, police said the 911 caller was one of the drivers involved in the road rage incident.

According to police, the driver of the car he was following was “attempting to evade the 911 caller.” The caller stayed on the phone with police, updating his location, “as he pursued the other vehicle.”

The car being chased by the 911 caller stopped near 300 North 1200 West. Police said the driver of the fleeing vehicle got out of his car and approached the pursuing vehicle.

“This encounter resulted in a shooting which left the driver of the fleeing vehicle dead,” police said. “The 911 caller was taken into custody and is cooperating with the investigation at this time.”

After speaking with police, they released the other driver from custody.

Police ask anybody driving on SR-193 between State Street and 1000 West, in Clearfield, between 6:20 p.m. and 6:35 p.m. on Monday, June 3, to contact them.

Specifically, they are looking for dash cam video that shows a dark-colored 2002 Chevy K2500 truck and a white 2000 Ford Ranger.
