Woman arrested after crashing while at 5 times legal alcohol limit, police say

OGDEN,Utah — A woman was taken into custody on Thursday after crashing what police said was a stolen vehicle into a street pole while driving under the influence.

A probable cause statement for the incident identified 18-year-old Destiny Samora and said she crashed in the area of 1200 South and Wall Avenue in Ogden.
When police arrived, they said Samora was slurring her words and was “dancing and singing during the arrest.” The statement said she even “bragged” to officers about having multiple DUIs.

The statement said officers found four empty beer cans and an empty bottle of whiskey in the car. That car didn’t belong to Samora, the statement said, and the owner told police she didn’t have permission to use it.
“(Samora) admitted to driving 60 mph in a 40 mph zone and lost control, and that is what caused her to crash into a street pole,” the statement said.
Samora reportedly registered a .23 breath alcohol content on a breathalyzer at the scene. She was taken to the hospital where her blood alcohol content was determined to be .284 — over five time the legal limit for those over 21 — according to the statement. However, a person under 21 may not have any alcohol in their system while driving.
Samora was booked into the Weber County Jail on suspicion of felony theft of a motor vehicle, as well as misdemeanors for DUI, consuming alcohol as a minor and failure to keep safe and proper lookout. The statement said she had never obtained a driver’s license.
