Police identify person of interest after stray bullet hits toddler in Spanish Fork

SPANISH FORK, Utah — Spanish Fork Police have identified an adult male as a person of interest in the shooting of a two-year-old at a daycare.
According to authorities, the man was shooting birds with a .22 caliber air rifle in the area west of the daycare on Monday, May 22. He is reportedly cooperating with investigators and the case is still ongoing.
The man will not be named unless formal charges are filed. Upon completion of the investigation, the case will be forwarded to the Spanish Fork City prosecutor’s office for review to determine if any charges will be filed.
The child is improving according to officials, and remains at Primary Children’s Medical Center in stable condition.
