UPDATE: Police respond to shots fired at Sugarmont Apartments

SALT LAKE CITY – UPDATE: Salt Lake City Police arrested a 33-year-old man, in possession of a firearm, from inside a high-rise apartment building. In a release from SLCPD, it says the investigation began at 12 p.m. on Sunday when officers received a call about one shot being fired inside the Sugarmont Apartment complex.
Upon arrival, officers requested for Gold Cross and the Salt Lake City Fire Department to respond and stage nearby. Once officers located the suspect, they learned the man pointed his gun at one or more people.
Therefore, detectives are investigating the incident as aggravated assault.
The man is currently in custody and no injuries were reported. Police did not locate anyone else inside the apartment, although the suspect claimed someone else was inside.
Detectives are in the process of getting a court-authorized search warrant to determine whether there were any other firearms inside the apartment and whether the suspect shot his weapon.
The suspect’s name will be released later, says SLCPD.

Shots were reportedly fired at the Sugarmont Apartment complex at 2191 S McClelland St. in Salt Lake City.
Upon arrival to the scene, police were able to locate an individual with a firearm inside of an apartment.
Police communicated with the suspect which led to him leaving the apartment with the weapon in hand. He surrendered the firearm and was peacefully arrested.
All orders to shelter in place or avoid the area are lifted.
