Santaquin residents honor fallen officer

SANTAQUIN, Utah — Santaquin residents are doing everything they can to honor the police officer who died in the line of duty on Sunday.
On Monday morning, mourners stopped their cars and left flowers, American flags, cards and other gifts near a patrol car at Santaquin City Hall.
Riley Carter and her two young kids stopped by on their way to school.
“I just think it’s important that people know just how many people are thinking about them and his family knows … we are all behind them,” said Carter.
Carter said tragedies like this impact everyone in their small city, but they all have each other’s backs.
Dennis Chapple also stopped by to leave a hat decorated with an American flag. He said the fallen officer came by his home multiple times before he giving his life on Sunday.
“He always had a smile on his face and was really willing to help us like he was one of our family,” he said.
Chapple said the city of Santaquin is like one big family, and he hopes they all come out of this stituation stronger than they were before.
