SALT LAKE CITY — Salt Lake City Police evacuated a hotel Wednesday night after reports of a suspicious device.
Sgt. Mark Wain of the Salt Lake Police Department said police were called to the City Creek Inn around 1000 South and Main Street just before 10 p.m. last night.
According to Wain, the SLCPD was called to assist Adult Probation Parole to secure the building after the agents found a suspicious device while conducting a house check on one of the probationers.
After the hotel was partially evacuated, the Hazardous Devices Unit was called to investigate.
“Our HDU detectives have confirmed this is an inert device but we still want to take those precautions to make sure that we collect that in a secure and proper manner.”
Wain said the evacuations “were out of an abundance of caution and for community safety” while agents investigated.
“They were able to confirm this device was an inert military training device and once they were able to determine that they were able to get the folks evacuated back into the warm hotel rooms,” said Wain.
