SLCPD identifies 35-year-old man killed in officer-involved shooting

SALT LAKE CITY —  One man is dead following an officer involved shooting early Tuesday morning.

The Salt Lake City Police Department later identified the man killed as 35-year-old Cameron Ammon Cloward in a statement.

According to the SLCPD’s statement, Cloward was reported at 2:24 a.m. at 875 South State Street for having a weapon. 

Police described it as a “deadly” weapon but said they couldn’t be more specific because of their ongoing investigation. 

Officers approached Cloward in a parking lot and he reportedly refused to comply. Four officers fired shots and 35-year-old died on scene. There were no injuries to the officers involved.

We have activated the OICI protocol for an officer involved shooting at 875 South State Street.

All of our involved officers are OK. The suspect, who had a weapon, died on scene.

Police activated the protocol for an “officer involved critical incident” and temporarily closed State Street in both directions from 800 South to 900 South.

“This investigation will gather additional facts, but I am relieved there were no other physical injuries to our officers or other community members. The safety of our city remains our number one priority,” said Chief Mike Brown in a statement.
