Suspect in 2021 murder of radio host extradited to Utah from Mexico City

TAYLORSVILLE, Utah — Authorities extradited 36-year-old Manuel Burciaga-Perea from Mexico City to Taylorsville, Utah on May 26 after he fled the country following the murder of a popular Latina radio host in 2021.
Taylorsville Police Department, TVPD, said in a release that Burciaga-Perea and Gabriela Sifuentes Castilla, the victim who went by Gabby Ramos on air, dated in the past. However, at the time of her death they were not in a relationship.
On October 17, 2021, Sifuentes-Castilla was at her sister’s home near 2300 West and 5200 South.
The release said Burciaga-Perea is accused of shooting Sifuentes-Castilla at her sisters, several times in the chest, arm, and head.
After the shooting, investigators with the Taylorsville PD determined that Burciaga-Perea fled to Chihuahua, Mexico, his hometown.
Multiple agencies, in coordination with the Mexican State Attorney General’s Office and federal court in Mexico, worked to issue a warrant for his arrest.
“This could not have happened without the teamwork, perseverance and cooperation between offices,” said TVPD Chief Brady Cottam.

He was taken into custody on Thanksgiving Day in 2022 and transported to a holding facility in Mexico City.
Once he arrived at the Salt Lake City International Airport, he was transported to the Taylorsville Police Station. Burciaga-Perea is currently in the Salt Lake County Jail.
