Springville police welcome vape-sniffing K9 to the force

SALT LAKE CITY — Springville police are on a mission to bring Utah’s first-ever vape-sniffing K9 to the force.
K9 Nomi is the newest member of the Springville Police Department and will be specially trained to sniff out vapes along with narcotics, a first for the state.

Her main focus will be helping keep schools vape-free.
Lt. Warren Foster shared that as of Thursday, Nomi is still in Kansas but will be en route to Utah to start her training.
“And if it’s successful, we think it’s going to be a very positive impact in our community and our schools.”
Foster said she’ll go through a rigorous 10-week training, working with her partner and handler Cpl. Johnson.

If all goes to plan, she’ll be ready to hit the ground running later this year.
The goal is for Nomi to start her first assignment at Springville High School by the beginning of next school year.
