Young girl and adult man hit by car in American Fork

AMERICAN FORK, Utah — A young girl and an adult man are recovering after a driver hit them while riding an electric moped. But both are doing “better than [first responders] anticipated,” according to a first responder.
A call came in just after 7 p.m. on Tuesday about a man and a child who were injured after a car accident at 5750 W 6800 North. The intersection is near American Fork’s Amazon warehouse.
According to initial reports, a driver of a white car ran a stop sign and hit the moped riders. The victims reportedly had severe injuries. Police called an Air Methods helicopter to fly the girl to a hospital. However, when first responders arrived, they found a less critical scene.
“They were both in remarkably better condition than we’d anticipated,” said American Fork Fire Battalion Chief Tim Dunkley. “She was conscious and breathing on scene and was actually interacting with us, which we were thrilled to see, to be honest with you.”
Dunkley said first responders called off the Air Methods flight. Fire crews took the girl and the adult man to different hospitals for treatment.
Police have not identified the victims or confirmed whether they are related. He said neither of the victims had a helmet on.
“On a bicycle, or a motor scooter, or a motorcycle, please wear your helmets,” said Dunkley.
According to Dunkley, the driver in the accident was cooperating with the investigation.
