Annual STEM Fest begins today

SANDY, Utah — A Science and Technology Action Committee report warns U.S. students are at risk of falling behind kids in other countries in science, technology, engineering and math. STEM Fest hopes to turn that around.
Namely, the event at Mountain America Expo Center on Tuesday and Wednesday hopes to inspire young minds.
Angel Faull and her son Calvin have been attending STEM Fest for years and are planning to attend this year.
“There is so much on offer,” Angel said. “There’s usually something military-related, which my son just gets really excited about.”
Calvin recalls when the Air Force came to STEM Fest.
“The Air Force, a few years ago, brought in the cockpit of one of the planes,” he said. “Like you got to sit in it, and that was pretty fun.”
Angel said they’ve been going to the event since he was in a stroller.
“There really is something that everybody gets to do,” she said. “And the kids get to take home a fair amount of swag.”
Calvin said he’s not sure what he’s looking forward to most, but it could be the real human brain STEM Fest features. For Calvin, that is “really cool.”
“I don’t know what there is to see … it’s always kind of a surprise what there’s going to be,” Calvin said.
