We would like to Nominate Mr. David Davis, Tennis Coach and English Honors Teacher for Bingham High School.

Mr. Davis has taught and coached three of our children. We have got to know Coach Davis as the Bingham Tennis Coach when our daughters played tennis for him. He has made a huge difference in our two daughters lives and is now helping our oldest son as a teacher of Shakespeare and the coach of Bingham High School tennis.
On one occasion, as a parent I was concerned about what position my daughter was playing on the tennis team. He said to me. “I’m more concerned about how your daughter is doing in her life than I am what position she is on this team.” That pretty much sums up is care and concern for each of his students and athletes. Sometimes he has to even teach parents what is important. Coach Davis wants each student to succeed in life. He helps build confidence and self-esteem in his athletes and students.

Coach Davis has been able to give my children great advice for there future. He even attended and spoke at a recognition night for one of my daughters. He cares about each of his student athletes. He has taken his own time to talk to my daughters about important life choices. At the end of each season, he takes time to build each player and especially notices those who have achieved academically as well as on the court. Coach Davis expects excellence in the classroom and the tennis court. He spent extra time with my daughters helping them prepare for college and discussing the pro’s and con’s of different colleges.

Coach Davis teaches his players to be very competitive during the points but show great sportsmanship after the points and in between games. He expects each player to treat the other players with respect and dignity both on and off the court whether they win or lose.

He does not allow foul language on the court which many of the other sports seem to tolerate. He actually will require some extra running if someone slips and says a four letter word. We appreciate his willingness to take a stand on keeping language clean.

Coach Davis spends many hours of his own time each summer teaching students tennis. His love for tennis and academics go hand in hand. He teaches students to work hard and to have discipline. Coach Davis expects and gets the most out of his players on the court and the classroom. Coach Davis wants each player to have fun learning to become the best they can be.

As an instructor of English Honors classes, he makes the classes fun but very challenging for the students. Coach Davis also teaches a ACT test preparation class which he provides to students. Those students who take this have scored much higher on their ACT exams. He spends extra time with students preparing them for the ACT test. He cares about them as an individual.

Coach Davis really does care about how his players succeed in the classroom and on the court. He spends time with his students who have life decisions to make and goes the extra mile as a teacher. He teaches life skills well beyond the call of duty as a teacher and coach.

We are so grateful for a wonder teacher/coach who does his best for the students each day. Coach Davis deserves this award because he gives so much extra time and effort to help his students succeed not only in high school but in life. Tennis has typically not been given the same notoriety as the other bigger sports such as football and basketball. We appreciate this wonderful teacher and coach who is able help our teenagers succeed in life.

Sincerely,

Doug and Jill Jensen

We want to hear from you.
