SALT LAKE CITY — The Granite School District says it will no longer have boys and girls sharing the same bathroom space.

The new bathroom layout in Cypress and Skyline High schools has floor-to-ceiling stalls with sinks open to the hallways. Granite School District Superintendent Ben Horsley says this allows adults to moniter the areas where most bullying typically occurs.
“[They are] floor to ceiling honey buckets, as it were, that [are] accessible and viewable from the hallway,” he explained to Dave and Dujanovic. “An adult can stand at the edge of their classroom door and see what’s happening in that bathroom space. Other students can see what’s happening.”
Horsley says the change also comes after several community and school board members voiced concern over having different genders share the same space. Girls will now use bathrooms on the first and third floors, while boys will get the second floor.
