Grant Averill – Woods Cross Elementary School

Mr. Averill taught my son in 4th grade. He encourages the kids to look in the mirror and tell themselves they are good people. My son started 4th grade with a low self-esteem. By the 3rd week of school his opinion of himself increased. I can never repay him for that, every child should feel they are important. He demands respect from the students, and respect for each other. He encouraged the students to always tell there parents they love them and appreciate them. If I ever popped into the classroom he would have my son hug me and tell me he loved me before I could leave. That is priceless.

He has a true love for our country and teachs the children this love. He has the children every morning chant together the pledge of allegiance, what the flag stands for. When my son finished 4th grade he knew national athem, every state in the country, every capitol, the presidents, the current superintendent of davis county, principal. It was amazing the amount of information these children learned at how much respect my child now has for our country. I feel we need more teachers like this.

He has the children put on plays. They did 4 plays from Tom Sawyer, to Romeo and Juliet. Those students memorize those plays and gain so much self confidence from putting these plays on. At the end of every play the class would line up and do there chants about the country. Fantastic.

Mr Averill is a fantastic teacher. He helped my son in so many ways. He loves to teach and the students know this. I think Mr. Averill deserves recognition for the wonderful teacher he is.
