GRANTSVILLE, Utah — Grantsville High School went into lockdown early Monday evening. The school has since been secured.

According to the Grantsville Police Department, dispatch received a call around 4 p.m. Monday of a man entering the school with a firearm. Several police officers from multiple agencies in the county immediately responded and began a room-by-room search.

Police say no weapon was found. Authorities cleared the entire building and surrounding buildings. They say everything is safe.

According to the Tooele County School District, there were still roughly 100 students at the school participating in extracurricular activities at the time of the incident, mostly in volleyball and football.

The incident remains under investigation. Police also report that no threat to the public has been found.

School will begin at its normal time on Tuesday. Police say that there will be counselors available for any students who are upset by the incident.

Earlier Monday, Grantsville High School posted on Facebook, “We are working with the Grantsville Police Department for details, but please know everyone is safe.”

The high school asked parents with students on the volleyball and football teams to go to the southwest parking lot at the high school to pick them up.

Originally, the high school said even if students had a vehicle they would need to be picked up as the parking lot was going to be closed “indefinitely.”

A short time later, however, school officials said students with vehicles in the school parking lot have been allowed to get to their vehicles and leave the school.
