SANDY, Utah — When you walk into the Mountain America Expo Center today, you’ll see STEMFest 2023. It’s the ninth annual rendition of an event that focuses on science, technology, engineering, and math for kids and families.
Just because the kids are learning, doesn’t mean they won’t be having fun. From the huge cement mixer truck from Staker Parson’s, to the utility poll with a raptor on top at Rocky Mountain Power‘s display, to KSL NewsRadio‘s live broadcast booth. NASA is even there with pictures and interactive learning.
“We’ll have over 11,000 kids today and tomorrow,” said Tami Goetz, Executive Director of the STEM Action Center. “There are 103 schools represented from across the state.”
Free family night at STEMFest
Tonight is free family night at STEMFest. No tickets required. From 4:00-8:00 PM, families are invited to come down and enjoy over 60 STEM displays.
“Come and bring your kids,” Goetz encouraged. “We ask all of our partners who come to STEMFest to bring something hands on, something for the kids to do. We are so lucky to have so many great companies who will come here and spend two days.”
Kids can learn how to machine diamond drill bits at the US Synthetic display, see drones and learn about copper and rocks from Rio Tinto engineers and check out the flame and learn about natural gas at the Dominion Energy booth.
“I think kids get a sense of – STEM is everywhere,” Goetz described STEMFest. “Think about the cement mixer truck – it’s all about technology. That is a moving engineering feat!”
