Third-party candidate now vying for Rep. Chris Stewart’s seat

SALT LAKE CITY — The list of candidates vying for the 2nd Congressional District seat being vacated by Rep. Chris Stewart continues to grow. A third-party candidate is now vying for the seat.
United Utah Party candidate January Walker tells KSL NewsRadio the reason Utah is ideal for a third-party candidate is in the numbers.
Is Utah ideal for a third-party candidate?
“Data tells a really fascinating story,” Walker said. “And the story that is here is that independents, moderates, especially purple people. Because they’re not red, they’re not blue, right? We’re all a shade of purple. But between that, they out-register the Republicans and Democrats.”
Walker tells KSL NewsRadio, third-party candidates have out registered the major parties in the last 10 years. She says that’s because many voters have become disengaged from the policies of Republicans and Democrats, and are looking for a different voice.
Another candidate
Henry Eyring, a resident of Davis County, has made his candidacy known for seat in Utah’s 2nd Congressional District.
Eyring was raised in North Salt Lake. He earned a doctorate from Harvard Business School.
He joins a crowded field of candidates seeking the Republican nomination at the party convention on June 24 in Price.
During a special session of the Utah legislature on Wednesday, lawmakers will lay out the official timeline of the upcoming special election.
