HERRIMAN, Utah — On Wednesday night, Republican delegates from Senate District 22 elected Heidi Balderree to replace Sen. Jake Anderegg.
The special election for Utah Senate had 13 candidates, and six rounds of balloting were needed before state delegates chose Balderee as the final winner.
One hundred twenty-nine delegates attended the event held at Mountain Ridge Junior High. Delegates were able to speak to candidates before the event started. Then, in the meeting, candidates had four minutes each to speak before voting began.
After the first round, three candidates were eliminated and the remaining were each given one minute to speak. After each round, more candidates were eliminated until Balderree faced off with Corey Astill. Balderee received 67 delegate votes or about 55%.
