Rep. Chris Stewart announces he will leave office in September

SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Chris Stewart officially submitted his letter of resignation from the U.S. House of Representatives to Gov. Cox on Wednesday.

In the letter, Stewart says his resignation will be effective Friday, Sept. 15 at 11:59 p.m. Eastern Time.

This comes as the special election date is in limbo, but getting clearer.

Also letter, Stewart states that serving the state of Utah has been one of the greatest honors of his life.

A schedule of a special election should be released by the governor’s office sometime in the next seven days.
