SALT LAKE CITY — Rep. Majorie Taylor Green (R-Ga.) has recently called for a national divorce. Many Republicans, including Utah Gov. Spencer Cox, has spoken out against her.

Gov. Cox went to Twitter to express his feelings.

Scott Simpson, former executive director of the Utah Republican Party, joined KSL at Night with hosts Leah Murray and Greg Skordas to discuss what Taylor Green has said.

Murray asked if the Republicans should be calling her out, or would the party be better off ignoring it?

Expert: GOP was correct in speaking out on national divorce

Simpson says Republicans were right to call her out on that.

“But it’s a silly tweet,” Simpson said. “It was gratuitous, and she should be checked on that.”

Simpson didn’t stop there.

“It’s just a reckless tweet,” he said. “It’s gratuitous, and I appreciate the fact that the governor chimed in.”

Skordas asked, “There are some people that take this seriously, aren’t there?”

“They are ridiculous comments,” Simpsons said. “But I don’t think they’re ridiculous comments to everybody. There is a segment of the population that laps it up.”

Murray says Taylor Green is closely connected with House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.). Murray asks to what extent does she have influence with the people who are doing the work of the country.

“I suspect he’s not going to say anything and hope that the news cycle and our attention span let this go away as quickly as it can,” Simpson said.

KSL at Night can be heard most weeknights from 7 to 9 p.m.

We want to hear from you.
