Controlled burn in Lapoint briefly closes US Route 40

SALT LAKE CITY — Travelers on U.S. Route 40 in Uintah County on Tuesday were briefly stopped as firefighters battled an out-of-control fire near Lapoint.
According to Lapoint Fire Chief Tyler Mckee, a citizen was conducting a controlled burn on Tuesday that got out of hand. Pictures provided by the Lapoint Fire Department show a strip of blackened grass along a fence.
Lapoint Fire Department and the Utah Department of Natural Resources responded to the blaze, which grew to about an acre in size. No injuries were reported.
U.S. Route 40 was temporarily closed for approximately 15 minutes while crews finished fighting the blaze.
