SALT LAKE CITY — Prescribed fire operations are planned for Monday in the Fishlake National Forest, once all required approvals are granted.
The Fremont River Ranger District reported on Facebook that fire managers would begin ignitions on Monday, with fires planned to burn for two days, contingent upon weather conditions.
If the conditions are not favorable for a controlled burn, the scheduled fire activities will be postponed or cancelled until weather improves.
The National Forest Service uses prescribed fires to reduce overgrown or unhealthy vegetation. According to the Facebook post, these controlled burns help protect local communities, infrastructure and natural resources from the effects of wildfires.
The controlled burns will take place approximately 10 miles southwest of the Freemont Junction on Interstate 70. Members of the public are urged to be cautious in the area and are requested to avoid all active fire operations.
The public is also asked to not report the fires, as firefighters will remain on sight to control the fire activity and will patrol the area following the end of the prescribed burn.
