PINE VALLEY, Washington County — The Forsyth Fire has grown to 7,045 acres in southern Utah, fire officials said on Monday.
In an update, the Great Basin Complex Incident Management Team said the fire was still 0% contained.
Officials have over 280 personnel working to manage the fire.
Although Sunday saw cooler temperatures, fire officials said it wasn’t enough to stop the fire’s growth.
“As the week progresses, conditions will turn increasingly hot and dry, raising the potential for critical fire weather as the weekend approaches,” officials wrote in their update.
Forsyth Fire evacuations remain in place
Pine Valley and Grass Valley evacuation orders remain in place. People in the Pinto area should be prepared for evacuation.
“These help to keep the public safe and allow suppression resources to work unobstructed,” officials wrote.
Officials reported over the weekend that 14 homes had been destroyed in the fire. However, on Monday, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office said the number was actually 13.
“GOOD NEWS THOUGH! We found out that upon a secondary assessment, one of the lots where we thought we lost a house was just a vacant lot. This brings the number of homes at a total loss to 13,” the sheriff’s office wrote in a Facebook post.
Great Basin Incident Management Team spokeswoman Candy Stevenson told Inside Sources that while it’s always devastating to lose homes, the only saving grace is that all the structures that burned were secondary homes for the owners.
Fire officials will hold a community meeting at the Central Fire Station for Pine Valley residents Monday night at 6 p.m. The sheriff’s office said space would be limited and asked that only Pine Valley homeowners attend. A recording of the meeting will be made available online on the Dixie National Forest Facebook page.
