SALT LAKE CITY — A fire burning near Bryce Canyon is 100% contained, as is the much smaller Bridge Creek Fire burning close to the border between Utah and Nevada.

France Canyon Fire

The France Canyon Fire was started by lightning and was discovered on June 11 in the Dixie National Forest. The fire was burning seven miles southeast of Hatch, Utah.

It burned just shy of 35,000 acres, according to Utah Fire Info.

Fire officials said the France Canyon Fire was fed by the wood of conifer trees that were standing and trees that had fallen.

No structures were threatened by the France Canyon Fire.

Bridge Creek Fire

Officials also reported on Wednesday that the Bridge Creek Fire is 100% contained.

This fire was discovered in steep terrain near Navajo Mountain, near Lake Powell, on June 13. Officials said it was started by lightning and burned around 2,500 acres.

(Northern Arizona Type 2 Incident Management Team)

Firefighters battling the Bridge Creek Fire used water from Lake Powell to secure the fire’s perimeters and limit its spread.

The Bridge Creek Fire was burning in steep terrain that the Northern Arizona Type 2 Incident Management Team described as “hazardous.” Because of the terrain, firefighters fought this blaze mostly by air.
