Parts of Utah under flood watch starting at noon on Sunday

SALT LAKE CITY — A flood watch will be in effect on Sunday for parts of east central and southeast Utah due to heavy rainfall, according to the National Weather Service.

NWS said in a notice that the flood watch will start at noon and continue through into the evening. Areas that could be affected by weather include Arches/Grand Flat, Canyonlands/Natural Bridges, La Sal and Abajo Mountains.

The flood watch will be in effect for the following cities:

  • Blanding
  • Goulding
  • Bluff
  • Tselakai Dezza
  • Aneth
  • Montezuma Creek
  • Mexican Hat
  • Halchita
  • White Mesa
  • Glen Canyon National Recreation Area
  • Rainbow Bridge South trailhead
  • Moab
  • Green River
  • Castle Valley
  • Monticello
  • La Sal 
  • Eastland
  • Spanish Valley
  • Fry Canyon
  • Canyonlands National Park

Weather could result in rivers, creeks and streams overflowing. NWS says poor drainage and urban areas are prone to flooding, street flooding can also be possible.

NWS said people who wish to take precautionary measures should keep an eye on future forecasts and prepare to take action if flood warnings are issued.
