North Ogden homeowners cleaning up after torrential rains flood basements

North Ogden — A powerful storm swept through North Ogden Wednesday, dumping relentless rain that overwhelmed homes and left residents scrambling to clean up and prepare for more.

For Daisy Hall and her family, the damage was sudden and surreal.

“I was getting ready for school, and I was like, ‘This feels like a movie, it looks fake,’” Hall said, standing in the muddy wreckage of her basement.

The storm began yesterday and didn’t let up until today, causing a window well to fill and eventually collapse under the pressure, sending water and shattered glass pouring into the home.

“There’s glass all over the basement,” Hall said. “It’s like a mudslide in our basement.”

The Hall family’s home isn’t new construction — it’s been in the family for years. While they’re used to a bit of flooding and have a sump pump in place, this storm was unlike anything they’ve seen before.

“I feel like I don’t even remember a time it’s rained that hard,” Hall added. “I don’t think our sump pump is that strong.”

Crews and family members spent the evening clearing out the basement, boarding up the broken window and setting up fans to dry out the space.

“We have three or four fans,” Hall noted, trying to stay ahead of the moisture.

Sandbags now line the property as the family braces for a possible second round of storms.

“We’re definitely concerned,” Hall said. “We’re just trying to be ready.”

As the community watches the skies and weather forecasts, residents like the Halls are hoping the worst is behind them — but they’re not taking any chances.
