BREAKING: Flash flood warning issued for area of Zion National Park

SALT LAKE CITY — The National Weather Service in Salt Lake City is expecting scattered showers in southern and central Utah for Thursday. NWS explains the areas in the Grand Staircase Escalante, San Rafael Swell, and Capitol Reef areas are under a flash flood watch.

The NWS reports that Orderville, Imlay, Mystery Canyons and the Narrows are at highest risk.

A Flash Flood Warning has been issued through 10PM for the area including Zion National Park. Orderville, Imlay, Mystery canyons and the Narrows at highest risk. Stay out of low-lying areas and seek higher ground if possible. Do not drive through flooded roadways. https://t.co/z9EVhxS2Fc

The NWS also reminds you not to drive through flooded roadways.

The NWS defines a flash flood warning when such flooding in imminent or occuring:

Flash Flood Warning: Take Action! A Flash Flood Warning is issued when a flash flood is imminent or occurring. If you are in a flood prone area move immediately to high ground. A flash flood is a sudden violent flood that can take from minutes to hours to develop. It is even possible to experience a flash flood in areas not immediately receiving rain.
