It’s November, should Utah have snow by now?

SALT LAKE CITY — Water totals in the valley are below average for November, but that isn’t cause for concern right now.

National Weather Service Meteorologist, Nicole DeSmet, said the weather in Utah usually looks a little different this time of year.

“Compared to average and or normal, we should have seen the first flake of snow, perhaps, down in the valley. But just haven’t yet.”

But DeSmet isn’t overly worried since it’s so early in the season. 

“It’s a different start to the season compared to last season. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that it’ll be a significantly above or a significantly below-average season,” she said.

Although we’re below average for November, storms on Thursday morning and this weekend could help change that.

And, dropping temperatures this weekend will help keep some of the new snowfall in the mountains.

DeSmet said that every year, the months are different. Sometimes December packs a punch and other times things don’t get very snowy until January.

So right now it’s a waiting game to see what the weather patterns bring.
