SALT LAKE CITY — Starbucks may have started slinging their Pumpkin Spice Lattes, however, the Salt Lake City forecast shows that summer is hanging around.
According to KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson, Salt Lake City may hit 100 degrees on Tuesday afternoon. If so, it will be the first triple-digit day August.
Johnson joined Utah’s Morning News on Tuesday morning and said a cold front is actually on the way.
“And in the northern hemisphere, before cold front ever reaches a certain area, you always get a south wind warm before the storm, quote unquote, as they say, and so we’ll get a south wind before we get the cool northwest wind,” said Johnson.
“We’re going to bring in some hot air from Arizona. So that’ll help to amplify the temperatures.”
Johnson told KSL NewsRadio it was unusual to make it so far into the month without hitting triple-digits. Last year, Utah had seven days in the 100s.
As we inch towards fall, today should be the last triple-digit day.
“If we tap into a little cool pattern here, that’s gonna buy us more time. And then its chances are lower and lower that we see something in September of triples,” said Johnson.
The Salt Lake City Labor Day forecast is expected to be in the 70s and 80s.
