Spring expected to be warmer this year in Utah and nationwide

SALT LAKE CITY — Tuesday is the first day of spring, and we’re looking at a warmer season than usual in Utah and across the nation. 

Springtime across the nation is getting warmer and lasting longer, according to data from Climate Central. 

In northern Utah, it’ll be a warm and sunny start to the season.

“For the Wasatch Front, it’s high pressure and mid-60s for most of this week. A nice taste of spring,” said KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson.

This week’s above-average temperatures are a good indicator of the upcoming spring and reflect trends in recent years.

Meteorologists at the National Weather Service’s Climate Prediction Center expect this spring to have temperatures ranging from 0.1  to 10 degrees above average.

As for the water outlook, it’s up in the air right now. Literally.

Meteorologists expect more mountain snow and valley rain next week, but the amount we get for the rest of the season could go either way.

For now, it’s too early to tell what the spring runoff will look like.
