Wet weather may make for some soggy Easter egg hunts

SALT LAKE CITY — Scattered rainy weather is threatening Easter weekend festivities. While some Easter egg hunts will continue, rain or shine, others are looking into contingency plans.

KSL Meteorologist Matt Johnson said the valleys are expected to see about 1/4 of an inch to 3/4 of an inch of rain this weekend, while the mountains might see 10-20 inches of snow. Luckily, the showers will be scattered.

“Just like in any storm in Utah, it’s very rare that we get a storm where it’s raining all day, every day, for the weekend,” Johnson said. “We are going to have windows where it’s dry.”

Aimee McConkie, Millcreek’s Community Life Director, said her city’s Eggstravaganza will go on, no matter what.

“Come rain or shine,” McConkie said. “I think people are excited to get outdoors, and they’re excited about candy. Both of those things mix very well, and the rain will not stop this event.”

McConkie went on to say that there is no such thing as bad weather, only bad attire. If you want to attend, you should dress accordingly.

The city of Roy’s Parks and Recreation Director Michelle Howard said they will go forward with their Easter egg hunt as well, no matter what kind of weather they have.

Some other events may move indoors if fields get too soggy. Hill Air Force Base’s Spring Fling will still happen, regardless of the weather. However, on its Facebook page, it said it may have to move the spring fling to an inside location if the weather gets too bad.

Johnson recommends watching the radar or watching the forecast to see when there may be breaks in the rain, so people can still get the kids outside, despite the wet weather.

“Don’t cancel any plans,” Johnson said. “Do your Easter the way you always do it. Just know you might run into some wet weather, but it will make for a good memory.”
