Warmup across Utah: Here’s where to get sandbags to help mitigate possible flooding

SALT LAKE CITY–  A steady warmup is expected across northern Utah beginning April 27, and with it will come the chance for flooding and the need for sandbags. 

Many communities want to help their residents take a proactive approach to flooding preparedness.

In some instances, cities and counties have set up “stop and fill” stations, where you can help yourself if you bring your own shovel. 

The fill stations will provide sand and bags but they recommend residents bring their own shovels. In many instances, cities will let residents fill from 20 to 25 bags for their personal use.

Here is a growing list of sandbag stations. For questions please call your local public works office.

• Cache County Sheriff’s Office, 1250 West 200 North in Logan
• Cottonwood Heights: Public works yard, 6579 South 3000 East (open multiple dates and times)
• Davis County: 1500 East 650 North, Fruit Heights
• Draper City, Andy Ballard Arena, 1600 Highland Dr.
• Harrisville City Public Works, 1350 North US 89
• Hyrum City, 600 East 75 North
• Kaysville: City officials have closed a self-filling sandbag station due to significant flooding around Orchard Ridge and Mountain Road.
  • For those Kaysville residents that live near streams or creeks, sandbags are available at Davis County Publis Works, 1500 East 650 North, Fruit Heights (801-444-2230)
• La Sal Fire departments ,24 La Sal Jct La Sal, Utah, 84530 and Utah 46 La Sal, Utah, 84530

• North Ogden Public Works, 165 East  Lomond View Dr.

• Salt Lake County AND Salt Lake City:  SLCo Flood Control Shed, 604 West 6960 South in Midvale
  
  • Community sandbag-filling events, April 28 and 29 (start time is noon on Friday, and 8 a.m. on Saturday, both days the events last until 4 p.m.)
• San Juan County, contact the Emergency Management Office: 435-587-32335. Sand will be located at the Monticello Road Shop and the Blanding Road Shop

• Spanish Valley, contact the San Juan County Road Department 435-587-3230 for bags
