Davis County Jail reports 14 new cases of COVID-19

FARMINGTON, Utah — A total of 14 inmates at the Davis County Jail have tested positive for the COVID-19 virus, according to the Davis County Sheriff’s Office.
According to a press release from the Sheriff’s Office, no severe symptoms have been discovered in those inmates who have tested positive.
The Davis County Jail had recently lifted its mask mandate. As a result, the mask mandate will go back into effect for all staff of the jail and inmates.
On Tuesday, according to the press release, an inmate experiencing mild symptoms of the virus asked for a medical examination. The inmate received a COVID-19 test, which came back positive. All inmates within that housing unit were tested for the virus, with 14 positive results coming back.
“The health and safety of our staff and inmates is a top priority for myself and the administration,” says Chief Deputy Arnold Butcher. “We have been tested over the last two years and, once again, will rise to the challenge and provide excellent service to those we’re charged to care for.”
The Davis County Jail has been free of COVID-19 for the past two months, according to the press release. The jail will also continue to work with the Davis County Health Department on how to best handle the situation.
Medical personnel will be available 24 hours a day, seven days a week to address any medical concerns, the press release says.
