SALT LAKE CITY — According to the Washington Post, fewer Americans are getting their vaccines this fall, but what are the numbers like in Utah?
Spokesperson for Salt Lake County Health Department, Nicholas Rupp said he’s noticed a small difference in Utah.
“Slightly less enthusiastic response to respiratory vaccines this season compared to last season, but not much,” he said.
Rupp said the change isn’t big enough to be concerned.
“Just about 300 fewer [people getting vaccinated], but not different enough that we’re alarmed,” Rupp said.
However, the Health Department did notice an uptick in COVID-19 hospitalizations last week.
We’re getting into the thick of the winter illness season. Experts are worrying about the potential for disease spread as we move towards peak season with fewer people vaccinated.
“We’re not going to be happy in public health until we have really good herd immunity against these dangerous illnesses,” Rupp said.
It takes about two weeks for immunizations to kick in. So, if you’d like to get one, now’s the time. Click here to learn more about where to get your vaccines.
