BRIAN HEAD, Utah — Following its delayed opening, Brian Head Ski Resort will begin spinning lifts on Friday.
Previously, Brian Head chose to postpone its opening date due to a lack of snow. A warm start to November melted snow and prevented snowmaking.
According to a press release from the resort, snow is in the forecast for the coming days.
“Our mountain operations team has worked hard to open, and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome skiers and snowboarders for the season,” wrote Amber Palmer, Brian Head’s marketing manager.
Brian Head will kick off the season at 10 a.m. with a celebration at Blackfoot lift. The celebration will include prize giveaways for early-arriving guests, hot cocoa and live music.
In addition to the Blackfoot lift, the Pioneer lift will open. The lifts will offer guests access to trails named Heavenly Daze, Fun Run and You’re Ready. The terrain park on Navajo Peak will also be accessible beginning on Friday.
On Saturday, Brian Head will host its first event of the season. The Picnic Table Rail Jam is a competition for freestyle riders. According to the resort’s website, it is open to those of all skill levels. Additionally, the website says that “[competition] features will be picnic tables to make the most of early season conditions.”
The event will run from 12 p.m. to 5 p.m. near the Giant Steps Express lift. Those interested in participating can register at the event’s website.
Safety on the slopes
Brian Head Ski Resort’s press release said that safety in the early season’s conditions is the top priority.
The resort’s press release reminded skiers to say on terrain that has been opened by the resort’s ski patrol. Venturing into unopened terrain poses safety risks, as inadequate snow coverage and hidden obstacles may exist.
Second, maintain a controllable speed. Ensure that you are able to stop, slow down, or navigate sudden changes in terrain.
Finally, keep a safe distance from other skiers and obstacles. Allow yourself enough time to stop or react to sudden changes downhill.
“For everyone making the journey to Brian Head Resort this Friday, please remember to have fun and be safe,” said Palmer.
