Man’s body found after avalanche in Snake Creek

SALT LAKE CITY — An avalanche happened in the Snake Creek area west of Midway Sunday afternoon, leaving a man dead.
According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s office, a man on a snowbike was buried in the slide. His body was found Monday morning.
Emergency crews responded, but because of “unstable snow conditions,” the search was suspended Sunday night before resuming the next day. Crews with the Department of Public Safety and the Wasatch Backcountry Rescue K9 Team found the man’s body just before 9 a.m., according to a release from the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office said the man was a 45-year-old from Rose Park, but did not release his name.
“This is the second fatal avalanche in the Snake Creek area within the past week. The Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office again urges all backcountry recreationists to check current avalanche forecasts and conditions through the Utah Avalanche Center before entering the backcountry,” the sheriff’s office said.
Wasatch County Sheriff Jared Rigby said that crews were still working to recover the body at 10 a.m. on Monday.
