Brush fire caused by semitruck closes portions of I-80 near Saltair

SALT LAKE CITY — Westbound Interstate 80 near mile marker 105 remained closed Saturday night as officials battled a brush fire.

Corporal Heywood, with the Utah Highway Patrol, said one of the truck’s tires caught fire and caused the truck to crash. The truck was hauling paper products according to Heywood, which was an aggravating factor in getting the fire put out more quickly.
Both directions of I-80 were closed in the area for a time, but only the westbound lanes were closed at the time of publication.

Drivers are advised to use state Route 201 as an alternate.
No injuries were reported.
