Freedom Truck visits Utah communities on nationwide tour

DRAPER — A traveling mobile museum is in Draper this week as part of a nationwide tour leading up to America’s 250th anniversary.
The exhibit, known as the “Freedom Truck,” is one of six 18-wheel trailers designed to bring museum-style displays directly into communities across the country.
“I thought it was like really, really cool when I saw it,” said nine-year-old Joslynne.
Inside, visitors can explore touchscreens and interactive exhibits highlighting American history — from the nation’s founding and the Revolutionary era to key moments that helped shape the United States over the past 250 years.
“You wouldn’t think you’d be able to get that much information into a small trailer,” said Chris Sims, a visitor and U.S. Air Force veteran.
Guests can also participate in activities such as virtually signing the Declaration of Independence, taking quizzes, and exploring a “Wall of 50 American Heroes” featuring figures like Thomas Edison, Rosa Parks, Mark Twain and Aretha Franklin.
“This is inspiring… I did not expect the effect it has,” said David Bernal, a U.S. Marine Corps veteran. “Kinda makes you, makes you very appreciative.”
Freedom 250 hopes to reach 20 million Americans across all 48 contiguous states through its fleet of traveling museums.
“I just love for them to hear of where we’ve come from and just different people who have stood up for freedom and defended their country despite the odds,” said Jacqueline Murdock, who brought her kids to the exhibit. “I think it encourages them to be bold and stand up for what they believe in.”
The Freedom Truck will be at the Ballard Arena in Draper on Tuesday and Wednesday from noon to 5 pm. Admission is free. It takes about an hour to go through the full experience.
The next Utah stop will be in Ivins at the beginning of June.
