SALT LAKE CITY — Police were searching for a shooter Monday morning after a man was shot, according to the Salt Lake City Police Department.
Sgt. Greg Wilking said the victim, a man in his twenties, was driving when he was shot in his lower legs around 1 a.m.
The victim continued driving to get away and then called police.
Wilking said the exact location the shots were fired was not known, but the victim showed up afterward at a gas station near 700 N. Redwood Road, where he met officers.
There was no evidence that could have proved the shooting was gang-related, Wilking said, and the situation looked to be isolated. Although he said it’s difficult to distinguish nuances in shootings like this one, where the victim is forced to flee the scene.
Wilking said despite the difficulty in knowing for certain, police believe the gunshot may have been fired near 1400 N Morton Drive. However, multiple residents who live near the area told KSL they hadn’t heard gunshots.
Police did not have any suspect information to share immediately.
Editor’s Note: Police initially reported the victim met police near 1400 N Morton Drive. SLCPD clarified, stating that was the location near which the gunshot might have been fired.
