A week of joy and music: Tabernacle Choir’s Brazil tour ends in São Paulo

SÃO PAULO, Brazil — The world tour to São Paulo wrapped up on Sunday night for the Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra at Temple Square, which has spent the past week performing in Brazil.
The final concert at the Ginásio do Ibirapuera, a sports arena, marked the last of four major events that drew thousands of enthusiastic fans.
Throughout the week, choir members described their time in Brazil as joyful, memorable and overwhelmingly positive.
Many choir members spoke of the warmth of the Brazilian people and the significance of returning to a country the choir last visited 45 years ago—an event still remembered by many locals.
Now, Brazilians say they will remember when the choir returned in 2026.
The four concerts on Wednesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday featured some very popular artists.
The final three concerts held inside the Ibirapuera featured huge video monitors, Broadway-style lighting and a stage that came out into the audience, connecting the choir with the people.
One of the featured nationally recognized Brazilian artists, Nicole Luz, 23, described the experience as “so special,” sharing that she has listened to the Choir since childhood.
“I’m singing with the choir! My family is coming to watch it. They are going to be seeing the choir for the first time, and I’ll be singing with them. It’s amazing,” she said with emotion.
Luz joined other youth performers during the “Songs of Hope” world tour stop, a collaboration designed to unite cultures through music.
The concerts also featured internationally known vocalist Nathan Pacheco, whose grandfather is from Brazil.
Pacheco said he hoped the music would “shorten the gap between us and heaven.”
“I think that one of the main purposes of the choir is to basically build bridges between people. And I think that through music, you’re able to do a lot of things that you couldn’t do otherwise and it creates, kind of the spirit of friendship,” he said.
Another major highlight came when Ivete Sangalo—one of Brazil’s biggest entertainers with nearly 40 million Instagram followers- took the stage to roaring applause.
Fans filled the arena, many singing along as she performed with the Choir, including when she sang “I am a Child of God” with the audience.
Elder Ulisses Soares, a member of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, who witnessed the Choir’s first Brazil visit in 1981, returned this time as an Apostle touring with the Choir.
He described being part of the tour as “like being in heaven,” expressing his hope that audiences felt “their closeness to Jesus Christ” through the music.
“Coming to my people, to my country, to my language, to my culture and seeing the reaction of people as they participate in this event, it is amazing to be here. I will be eternally grateful for this opportunity. I am very, very blessed,” he said.
Throughout the more than two-hour-long concerts, feelings of peace, joy and inspiration resonated strongly with the crowds.
Many attendees shared emotional reactions afterward, saying they would never forget the experience.
With stop number six of the world tour now complete, the Tabernacle Choir heads back to Salt Lake City.
Brazil, like Mexico City, the Philippines, Peru, and Argentina, remains a cherished part of the Choir’s global journey.
