SALT LAKE CITY — The price of air travel has increased nationally by an average of $86 since the COVID-19 pandemic started. Salt Lake International experienced a notable 36% increase, an average of about $120 rise in ticket prices.
USA Today says that Salt Lake City International Airport has an average ticket cost of $452.
According to USA Today‘s analysis of the nation’s 100 largest airports, 97 saw a 29% average increase since 2021. The three airports that didn’t experience an increase in the cost to fly were all located in Hawaii.
As the cost to fly goes up, more travelers are getting travel insurance, because they are more worried about flight cancellations and delays.
USA Today surveyed 2,000 recent flyers. The survey shows that only 5% don’t think about cost, travel time, and flight options when deciding whether to fly or drive.
