SALT LAKE CITY — A lot of unhappy Twitter users have recently been switching over to a new platform called Threads.

It’s a site created by Meta, and now lawyers for Twitter are threatening legal action against Meta.

On Friday, Sloane Glass, national correspondent for NewsNation joined KSL NewsRadio to explain the differences between the two social media platforms.

“When you’re on Twitter, you’re looking at a more global audience,” Glass said. “Where Threads is integrated with your Facebook data.”

Glass goes on to say that when you create your Threads account it is a seamless integration into Instagram.

“So, you can automatically follow everyone who you follow on Instagram,” she said. “Your bio is already set up.”

KSL NewsRadio’s Greg Skordas says many of the former employees at Twitter have taken their knowledge and expertise to help create the new platform. As a result, Twitter is threatening a lawsuit over intellectual property.

“There were mass layoffs at Twitter,” Glass said. “They’re really down to bare bones staff, and now we have Twitter’s lawyers threatening to sue Meta, accusing the company of unlawful misappropriation of trade secrets. They said that former employees went over and did a copy and paste of the platform, but they don’t provide any concrete examples.”

After being dominant for years, Twitter has come back down to earth in the last year.

Glass said Elon Musk, chairman of Twitter, expects to lose $20 billion from the social media platform.

KSL at Night can be heard weeknights from 7 to 9 p.m.
