Jeff Caplan’s Minute of News: Use these songs to tune your car stereo

SALT LAKE CITY — So you’re probably listening to your car stereo, but have you ever tuned it? Where you fiddle with bass and treble and balance and get the optimum sound quality?

Since we’re in the car together, I’m gonna give you some songs that are used by expert sound engineers who tune stereo systems.

Car & Driver reports that sound engineers use a playlist of 54 songs to coax the best quality sound out of a car stereo.

Here’s one of the songs, used because this one by the Holly Cole Trio is perfectly centered. It should hit your left and right ears — perfectly equal.

Sweet song.

Now, this one’s used because it features a lot of different instruments spread across a sound stage. 

You should get that feel coming from both directions, giving you a sense of space. Bruno Mars there.

Fiddle with knobs on this one because the cymbals should sound natural. Dave Brubeck Quartet, “Take Five.”

This one  —Yacht Rock— is to make sure the sound is crisp and hits your ears simultaneously from each side.

So to make your music sparkle, to make my voice sound like a million bucks, I can’t do that; it’s up to you.

So take five, IN YOUR DRIVEWAY, and fiddle with your settings.
