From maximizing the legendary views to curating a high-quality culinary experience, the staff has meticulously redesigned every element to create Utah’s most unforgettable dining destination.
Over a century of elegance: The Roof is steeped in local history
When Hotel Utah opened up its rooftop restaurant in 1914, guests had never seen anything quite like it. Ten floors up, diners found themselves in an open-air paradise where exceptional cuisine met enchanted skies and city views. It was here that guests held celebrations, made lifelong memories, and sealed special deals.
Over the century, the space has gone by many different names, including the Starlite Gardens, The Sky Room, The Garden, and finally The Roof. Each incarnation holds rich memories held by families who live here or have visited from across the globe.

Today, the Roof pays homage to its storied past with a signature retractable glass ceiling that captures the romance of those early days while providing year-round comfort. This historical preservation is just one of the ways a thoughtful blend of historical reverence and contemporary luxury reinvigorates the new Roof Restaurant.
The Roof reimagined
Under the visionary leadership of Chef Brian Richter, the Roof’s culinary program has been completely reinvented. His vision was inspired by fusing global flavors and world-class techniques with the local flavors and spirit of Utah. On the new menu, you’ll find an elevated spin on old classics, like funeral potatoes or Utah scones, with delicious entrees like maple-glazed salmon or lemon chicken pasta.
