BYU football officially clinches spot in 2025 Big 12 Championship game

PROVO, Utah – Before playing their game on Saturday, BYU football knows they will be playing next week in the Big 12 Championship game.
When the Arizona Wildcats defeated the Arizona State Sun Devils 23-7 in the Territorial Cup on Friday, the Sun Devils’ loss due to Big 12 tiebreakers punched BYU’s ticket to the Big 12 Championship Game.
BYU football will play in the 2025 Edwards Jones Big 12 Championship Game
Regardless of what happens on Saturday against the UCF Knights, BYU is going to the Big 12 Championship Game that will be played at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas, on December 6, 2025, at 10 a.m. (MST).
Who will BYU face in the Big 12 Championship Game?
The only team to have defeated BYU this season: the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
BYU vs. Texas Tech: Round Two
Like BYU, Texas Tech also punched its ticket to Arlington via Arizona State’s loss to Arizona.
Texas Tech plays West Virginia on Saturday in Morgantown at 10 a.m. (MST).
Both BYU and Texas Tech are 10-1 overall this season, entering the final regular-season games on Saturday.
Texas Tech won big over BYU in Lubbock, Texas, on November 8, 29-7. It was a performance that has caused BYU to tumble down the College Football Playoff rankings to No. 11, currently outside of the Playoff Bracket forecast.
Texas Tech is currently ranked No. 5 in the College Football Playoff rankings. The Red Raiders are knocking on the door of earning a first-round bye in the Playoff if they earn one of the top four bids in the Playoff.
New conference champion in the Big 12
The winner of the 2025 Big 12 Championship will ensure that the Big 12 has a different champion for the sixth consecutive season.
BYU’s last conference championship was in 2007, when it was a member of the Mountain West Conference.
For Texas Tech, you have to go back further: the Red Raiders have never won a Big 12 title, and they have been a member of the league since its establishment in 1996.
The last Red Raiders football conference championship was in 1994, as a member of the Southwest Conference. That title was a co-championship, along with sharing the title in 1976.
Texas Tech’s last outright conference championship was in 1955 as a member of the Border Conference.
